[http://www.flickr.com/photos/iseethroughglass] I use microscope objectives mounted on a bellows with adapters (in my case Olympus PM-MTOB OM->RMS adapter). The microscope base/stage is only used for focus stacking..

This is an erythraeid mite in the subfamily Callidosomatinae.
